Citizens Community Bank, a locally owned bank headquartered in South Hill, was founded in 1998 with a vision to bring back the hometown, personal service that seemed so long ago. Nine years and three branches later, Citizens Community Bank still thrives on being the bank with the personal touch.
In the spring of 1998, local businessman R.T. Arnold identified the need for a locally owned and operated financial institution in South Hill, Virginia… an area saturated with institutions that were inflexible and impersonal. With this, Mr. Arnold and several other local business experts formed a Board of Directors. Incorporated as Citizens Community Bank, eleven employees opened the doors for business on December 14, 1999.
Citizens Community Bank exceeded all expectations when it gathered over $29 million in assets in the first year alone. In September of 2002 the first branch was opened in Gasburg, Virginia with three employees. The second branch was opened in the Mecklenburg County seat, Boydton, Virginia, in November 2003 with four employees.
In December 2006, the loan production office in Gaston, North Carolina became our newest full-service branch, with six employees. The new Gaston branch expands our services into northern North Carolina for the first time. In operation less than one month, the branch gathered over $11 million in assets. Plans are underway for another North Carolina branch in the near future.
To date, the four offices have accumulated over $129 million in assets and close to 50 employees.
